EDI Audit Case Study

The Service

Our EDI Audit helps you assess your current position, existing data and identify gaps in knowledge. Our skilled consultants are experienced in collecting data and well-versed in data protection and participant privacy. We will intersectionally analyse the data collected through the lenses of all protected characteristics as well as from a social equity perspective. Together we will work to co-create a targeted EDI action plan best suited to you and your organisation based on the evidence collection from our audit and our associated recommendations. Undertaking an audit on a regular basis will allow you to measure the effectiveness of your current and recommended EDI initiatives; your progress; and identify areas for improvement.

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) is the professional, educational and trade union body for the UK's 63,000 chartered physiotherapists, physiotherapy students and support workers. Founded by four nurses in 1894, the CSP was awarded its Royal Charter in 1920 and has become the profession's leading membership organisation in the UK.
As an organisation, The CSP has a firm understanding of its role and importance of championing Equality, Diversity and Belonging (EDB) in its sector.

Our Work

In 2020 The Equal Group carried out an equity, diversity and belonging (EDB) audits. In 2021, this was developed with a follow-up audit aimed to provide a holistic view of EDB at the CSP, it will compare and contrast findings from this year’s audit with findings from the previous audit undertaken in 2020/21. This work is part of a wider EDB strategy at the CSP that seeks to eradicate discrimination and make everyone feel safe and supported working in or engaging with the organisation.

Closing Thoughts

The reports from each audit provided insight into various aspects of the organisation pertaining to EDI, such as its demographic data and company culture, and suggested recommendations to aid the CSP in tackling the themes that emerged from the audit(s). As part of the audit(s), The Equal Group facilitated a number of focus groups to understand the thoughts and feelings of the CSP’s workforce. A staff survey was carried out that included a number of ‘free text’ questions to allow staff to provide further qualitative insight and perspectives on EDB at the CSP. The report from the follow-up audit used the responses to explore how things have changed since the last audit.
